    Oreo Sliders

Desserts to me should always be whimsical and please that hungry inner child in all of us.

My hungry inner child is often found staring at me with a glint in her eye daring me to come up with some sinfully delicious and completely outrageous new dessert.

And when she has that look in her eye I have no choice but to simply concede and let my stomach do all the thinking…

Lately she has been on a real oreo kick.

When it comes to baking, I am no genius. Baking is a science and I am not one to follow the rules in the kitchen.

So when creating new recipes following the rules of course results in an array of mysterious problems I am left to figure out including fallen cakes, stuck brownies and gelatinous consistencies that...just...cant be right...

My problem is that I treat baking like cooking - I take an idea and then twist and bend it to my personal tastes until many times it barely resembles the original.

    On one hand:

Doing this with a savory dish usually can't go TOO wrong.

Though there has been moments over the dinner table where my husband keeps repeating the word different when referring to my latest creation...”it’s just so different, not totally bad, just unlike anything I have ever had...

Hmmmmm, I try to take these comments as compliments :/

    On the other hand:

When I am baking and deciding to do something completely NEW and DIFFERENT it can often go terribly, terribly wrong.

The other day we went to a friend’s BBQ and I showed up with 1 of the 3 desserts that I was planning to bring with me.  All I could say is that things had gone "terribly wrong."

Taking all this into account while brainstorming up a dessert to bring to my mother-in-laws I felt in the mood to try something new, but I also needed to be guaranteed that I would actually have a dessert in my hands when I arrived that evening.

So I came up with something that had a decent chance of turning out and an even better chance of getting the almighty “Mmmmmmmmmm’s” around the table.

That evening my mother-in-law brainstormed the name "Oreo Sliders" to describe the perfectly moist chocolate chip cookies sandwiched around rich, dark Oreo filling.

    Let the “Mmmmmmm’s” begin

    RECIPE:

    Chocolate chip cookies:

1 Cup Unsalted Butter (room temp)

    3/4 Cup Light Brown Sugar

    1/4 Cup Sugar

    1 Package Vanilla Instant Pudding

    1 tsp Vanilla Extract

    2 Eggs

2 and 1/4 cups all Purpose Flour

    1 tsp Baking Soda

    1 Bag Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Cream Butter and Sugar together. Once combined add pudding mix. Combine again. Add Vanilla and 2 Eggs and mix untill incorporated. Slowly add in Flour and Baking Soda. Mix in Chocolate Chips. Roll into 1inch or smaller balls and flatten on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake 6-8minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool completely. Enjoy!!!

     Makes 80-100 mini cookies

    Oreo Filling:

    1 15.5oz package oreos

    5oz Cream Cheese

Combine in a food processor until you have a smooth mixture.

    To make sliders:

Take about 1-2Tbs of the oreo filling and form it into a patty. Then press two cookies around it until they stick.

    Makes 40-50 sliders

My hungry inner child has been sated…for now…. ;)

Wow, that oreo filling looks awesome! These are so fun - and so creative! I bet that filling would be great as a cupcake frosting too. Yum!
